Condition
of Watches
NOS
New Old Stock I am not an authorized distributor
of any watch brand or line of watches. Sometimes watches
come in that have never been sold to a final user who
will wear the watch. The watch may have the original box
and paperwork. Some NOS watches may show handling marks.
Older NOS watches will show natural deterioration of the
various materials but no signs of actual wear. A NOS watch
will be all original with the possible exception of leather
bands which disintegrate over time. A NOS watch may not
have been serviced for decades.
Mint
Near new condition but not new. A mint condition
watch will have minor signs of wear that are not readily
visible with the naked eye. A restored watch may be described
as mint but it cannot be original.
Excellent
Minor signs of wear that are visible on close examination
with the naked eye.
Very
Good Signs of wear readily visible with the naked
eye but not readily visible on the wrist.
Good
The watch shows significant wear visible on the wrist
but is still attractive.
Fair
Wearable but not attractive.
Poor
Primarily useful for parts or restoration.
Original
As it came from the factory. The correct movement in
the proper case. Refinished dials and buffed out cases
will be noted to the best of my ability to do so. Sometimes
a NOS dial will be available for a vintage watch. While
that dial may be an original, it is not original to the
watch and I will note it to the best of my ability to
do so.
Vintage
watches often show different levels of wear on the case
and the dial and I will do my best to describe them. Please
let the detailed photographs be your best guide.
Accuracy
of Vintage Watches
Please
do not expect a vintage watch to be as accurate a time
keeper as a new quartz watch. That said, some vintage
watches are excellent time keepers but most are accurate
to a minute or 2 per day. Some older watches and watches
with poor service histories may vary by 4 or 5 minutes
per day which is acceptable for a watch that is worn only
occasionally. Vintage watches that were rated as chronometers
when made are not likely to run to modern chronometer
standards. Unless otherwise noted in the description,
no watch is warranted to run to chronometer standards.
Waterproof
and Water Resistant
No
watch is completely waterproof. Attempts to make watches
waterproof go back over 100 years. After World War 2 stainless
steel became more common as a watch case material and
watches were commonly called waterproof. After a few claims
and lawsuits watch manufacturers stopped using the term
waterproof in favor of water resistant. Modern watches
are rated for water resistance to particular depths and
are pressure tested to simulate static pressure at a particular
depth. I do not warrant vintage watches to be waterproof
or water resistant to any particular depth. If you need
a watch for diving or for use in wet conditions please
consider a modern watch for that purpose.
Warranty
Any
watch that is noted as serviced by my watchmaker is warrantied
for a period of 90 days from the date of purchase for
parts and labor. If, in my opinion, a watch cannot be
repaired, a refund will be issued. Buyer abuse or misuse
is not covered under the warranty. Any watch that is not
noted as serviced by my watchmaker is not warrantied but
is subject to my liberal return policy. I do not warranty
vintage watches to be waterproof or water resistant to
any particular depth. Unless otherwise noted in the description,
no watch is warrantied to run to chronometer standards.
