Ditisheim Way Out Stainless Steel Loop Lug

1930s vintage Ditisheim in the wildest hinged loop lug case you’ve ever seen!  Stainless steel is a great material for watch cases, it’s tough, doesn’t easily corrode and the bright white color goes with most everything.  Prior to WW 2 stainless was something of an exotic material because it was so hard to work compared to the gold, silver or plated brass most watch cases were made of.  Modern tooling has made stainless steel commonplace but in the old days the watch makers who wanted a stainless case had to be creative, especially with the lugs which were particularly hard to form because of the complex angles.  This loop lug Ditisheim is unique among the lug innovations and I doubt that you will ever see another one.  Measuring 29mm wide without the crown, 62 mm across the back of the lugs and 44mm between the strap connections this watch has a striking presence.  The signed Ditisheim Solvil case is in excellent/ near mint restored condition and has been professionally detailed and textured.  The black matte finish dial is a recent refinish done to look like a vintage, hand-painted enamel dial.  The moon style hands have been painted white to contrast against the dial.  Overall, the effect is great!  The glass crystal is new.  The movement is a rare early 17 jewel shock protected Ditisheim that has gold jewel setting, 3 adjustments and a clean Geneva stripe finish.  The movement was recently serviced by a master watchmaker and runs great.  There is an occasional skip in the wind that does not affect the winding or setting.  The watch is fitted with a high grade DeBeers crocodile band and is ready to wear.
